UIC Foundation Benefit Golf Tournament raises record-setting $268,538 for scholarships and educational opportunities
SPRINGFIELD, VA – UIC Government Services and the Bowhead Family of Companies (Bowhead) hosted the 15th Annual UIC Foundation Benefit Golf Tournament at Fawn Lake Country Club on Sept. 21.
“This tournament has brought together our employees, business partners, sponsors, friends, and supporters for one purpose: creating educational opportunities that change lives,” said Mike Hundley, President of Bowhead. “What started as a golf tournament has grown into something much bigger, and every person here today is part of that story.”
The sold-out tournament welcomed 168 golfers and raised a record $134,269. With a corporate match from Ukpeaġvik Iñupiat Corporation (UIC), the UIC Foundation will receive a total of $268,538 to support scholarships and educational opportunities for UIC shareholders and their descendants.
“As President and CEO of UIC, a shareholder, and a former UIC Foundation scholarship beneficiary, I have seen firsthand what education can mean to our shareholders and their families” said Dr. Pearl K. Brower. “Education creates possibilities and opens doors. It gives our shareholders and their descendants the tools to pursue careers, provide for their families, become leaders, contribute to their communities, and carry forward who we are and where we come from.”
With the overwhelming success of this year’s record-setting tournament, the total funds raised through the annual event has surpassed $1.26 million over its 15-year history.
The UIC Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to empowering UIC Iñupiat shareholders and their descendants. By supporting their educational and vocational journeys, the Foundation helps them build fulfilling careers and make meaningful contributions to their communities.
During the ceremony, Mariah Utuga, Vice President of UIC Shareholder Services and the UIC Foundation, highlighted the impact of the Foundation’s scholarship program.
“In 2025, the UIC Foundation awarded 147 scholarships, including 53 part-time and 94 full-time scholarships,” Utuga said. “This level of support would not be possible without events like today.”
The success of this year’s record-breaking tournament ensures the UIC Foundation can continue expanding educational opportunities for shareholders at home in Utqiaġvik and beyond.
