Bowhead and SBA Host Industry Day Event for Individually-Owned Small Businesses

UIC Government Services (UICGS) and the Bowhead Family of Companies is pleased to work with the US Small Business Administration (SBA) on a new initiative that helps individually-owned 8(a) companies explore contract opportunities with federal agencies, compete for contracts, and pave the way for potential new partnerships.

At an industry day event hosted by UICGS/Bowhead on July 17 at our office in Springfield, Virginia, eight individually-owned 8(a) small businesses had the opportunity to share their capabilities, explore potential teaming opportunities, and discuss best practices in the DoD and federal contracting arena.

“This is our way of giving back,” said UICGS/Bowhead President Mike Hundley. “The SBA does amazing work that has really helped Bowhead over the years. This industry day event is an opportunity where we hope to set up small businesses for success.”

The individually-owned small businesses participating in the event were:

  • BN Associates, Inc.
  • IT Pandits, Inc.
  • Saatek Solutions, LLC
  • Precision Point Solutions, LLC
  • Adept Engineering Solutions, LLC
  • Kaps Solutions, LLC
  • Beaken Systems and Technology Solutions, Inc.
  • Plenary Enterprises, LLC

“This is really exciting because since we’ve had this big push in the federal government for entity-owned and individually-owned 8(a) companies to work together, this is the first time that we have seen it and participated in it,” said Jaqueline Robinson-Burnette, Associate Administrator for the SBA’s Office of Government Contracting and Business Development. “This is historic, and we’re hoping that this will continue.”

This new initiative was developed between the SBA and UICGS/Bowhead as a result of discussions and collaboration at the recent 2024 Regional 8(a) Conference in Anchorage, Alaska.

“I just want to say thank you so much, and Bowhead, for giving us this opportunity, said Van Tran, Acting Associate Administrator with the US Small Business Administration Office of Business Development. “This is the first event, but not the last, and we’re hoping for continued collaboration with [the SBA] and our individually-owned 8(a) firms. This is the first cohort and we will have more cohorts coming.”
